How to Market an Event With a Small Budget

4 June 2026

Small-budget marketing works when it is specific. Broad awareness is expensive; targeted relevance is mostly free.

Map the audience you already have

Your list, the artists' lists, the venue's regulars and the two or three community groups where your audience actually talks. That is your launch plan.

Give people something to share

A poster is not shareable. A short clip, a behind-the-scenes note or a progress milestone is. Ask yourself what someone gains socially by posting it.

Plan three waves, not one blast

  1. Announce — Launch to your warmest audience with a clear deadline.
  2. Prove — Share progress, sold-out tiers and early supporter reactions.
  3. Close — Final call with a specific, honest reason to act now.

Measure what matters

Reach is a vanity number. Track ticket reservations per channel and quietly stop doing the things that never convert.

Promote it with tools that track what works

Tracking links, discount codes, add-ons and referral rewards are built into every Gigstarters event page.
